ZeHaal-E-Miskin | Amīr Khusrau

Ze-Haal-E-Miskin Makun Taghaful Duraye Naina Banaye Batiyaan
Ki Tab-E-Hijran Nadaram Ai Jaan Na Lehu Kaahe Lagaye Chhatiyaan
(Don’t neglect the plight of the helpless, with your eyes full of promises.
I cannot bear the pain of separation, O beloved, why do you press me to your chest and then part?)

Shaban-E-Hijran Daraz Chuun Zulf O Roz-E-Vaslat Chuun Umr-E-Kotah
Sakhi Piya Ko Jo Main Na Dekhun Toh Kaise Katun Andheri Ratiyaan
(The nights of separation are as long as your tresses, and the day of union is as short as life itself
If I cannot see my beloved, how will I pass through these dark nights?)

Yakayak Az Dil Do Chashm Jaadu Ba-Sad-Farebam Ba-Burd Taskin
Kise Padi Hai Jo Ja Sunave Piyare Pi Ko Hamari Batiyaan
(Suddenly, your eyes cast a magical spell, comforting me with a hundred deceits.
Who cares enough to go and convey my words to my beloved?)

Chuun Sham-E-Sozan Chuun Zarra Hairan Mehr-E-An-Mah Bagashtam Aḳhir
Na Niind Nainan Na Ang Chainan Na Aap Aave Na Bheje Patiyaan
(Like a flickering lamp, like a restless particle, I remain perplexed by the light of that moon (beloved).
Neither do my eyes find sleep nor does my heart find peace, neither do you come nor do you send a message.)

Ba-Haqq-E-Roz-e-Visal-E-Dilbar Ki Daad Maara Gharib 'Khusrou'
Sapit Man Ke Yara.e Rakhun Jo Ja Ke Pa.un Piya Ki Khatiyaan
(By the truth of the day of union with the beloved, have mercy on this poor one, O Khusrau.
If I could only go and lay my head at my beloved’s feet, I would find solace.)
